Why your creative business isn't growing

What if I told you that you that the reason you haven’t grown your creative business this year – isn’t because it’s a bad year…

but it’s because your ideal clients don’t know that you exist?

It always comes down to one obvious thing

I’m going to say this with love; because I want you to win. When creatives come to me asking “how do I book more clients?” it almost always comes back to the same issue.

Every single person I’ve worked with in groups and 1-1 has:

〰️ a story to tell
〰️ gold woven into their voice
〰️ a distinct way of seeing the world
〰️ reasons why their ideal client would choose them

And yet… they just don’t show it with the conviction and belief that helps a collaborator see them in their light.

Instead, they wait to be chosen.
They blame the algorithm.
Or say it’s a bad year.
They convince themselves it’s just “quiet right now”.
And they haven’t got time to market.

But what if….

It’s not all down to the algorithm?
It’s not purely the market’s fault?


What if it’s because:
Your people don’t know you exist.

You can’t be booked if you’re invisible.

How to break the spell:

I don’t want you to post on Instagram everyday, but I want you to come out of hiding.

Here’s what always has worked.

The Basics:

1. Write daily.
Get your thoughts out of your head and onto paper. Trust that you have something to say.

2. Be in conversation.
Ideas are formed in dialogue. The more conversations you’re in, the more material you generate.

3. Open up your blog
You know how I began? I blogged, and I wrote newsletters like this. Then I pinned everything I wanted the world to know on Pinterest (this is boring; but I also worked on my SEO!)

4. Share before you’re finished
Stop waiting until everything is “ready”. My cutting room floor blogs were the thing that brought the most traffic my way.

5. Remember why you do what you do.
Not the easy answer but the thing that you wish people knew. People need that.

6. Use content as expression.
Content is a place to share what you care about – selling comes second.

7. Bring back the basics.
When I started, I collaborated, I blogged, I pinned my thoughts, and I made damn sure that my words, thoughts and creations were circulating the world wide web doing the work on my behalf.

Your people need to feel you before they choose you. I’m not saying you need to post a reel every day. (god no.) I’m not saying you need to live on Instagram.

  • Maybe your place is LinkedIn.
  • Maybe it’s Substack.
  • Or Threads.
  • Maybe it’s a cosy newsletter.
  • Recording a podcast.
  • Or, just MAYBE, it’s in real life!?

Whatever it is — it’s no good hiding in your journal or your daydreams.

The Activity

Before you spiral about content, algorithms, or strategy, do this:

Reach out to one person and suggest a collaboration.

That could be:

  • A conversation via DMs,
  • co-created workshop,
  • joint newsletter,
  • a live chat (like this one)
  • a podcast swap
  • or a collab reel.

Making friends on the internet = lead gen 101.
