Hands up if you have a visceral reaction to creating content right now? π
ie: pushing through to create another carousel is your least favourite thing to do? It feels like you want to push content to the back of the to do list ? Or it feels like you’re wading through sticky mud, trying to crank something out for Instagram?
“I’ll do that another day π” is your usual response?
Even though you know deep down. . . it’s highly useful for your business. But other things just feel more… worthy of your time?
I’VE BEEN THERE
Girl, sometimes, I STILL am there. For a while I was plagued with this dread too…
- I’d tried choosing perfect pillars or themes
- I’d tried creating content every Monday
- and I’d tried eating the frog, it didn’t help, it made it worse πΈ
Oftentimes, the problem isn’t that you β¨don’t have enough ideasβ¨
The problem is usually:
- Too many ideas! (aka: where do I start? what do I do with them? PS: I have a solution for this at the bottom of the email)
- Unclear messaging – this means you don’t know which way to go
- or you worry about how best to navigate the algorithm and if you’re wasting time
π¨ The problem is not your lack of content pillars. π¨
(HOT TAKE: if you’re feeling sticky with content, I actually recommend trashing pillars altogether for now.) ποΈ
^ that’s advice nobody else will dare say out loud. but I will.
So what helped me fix my broken relationship with content?
1. shifting my mindset. sounds basic, but hear me out:
I have so much to say on this, so I bundled three resources together:
β my Tree of Life Content Workbook/Training from GOLD
β my Silky Story Sequence (a story telling framework that stirs people to feel and therefore comment)
β my CapCut Mini Movie course to show you how to edit like art.
Anyway, I bundled these 3 trainings together to show you that content can be CREATIVE EXPRESSION in it’s own right.
you can make it art. πΌοΈ AND screw the rules in the process.(tell them I said so.)
2. A sexy system for creation
I call it Pollination and you can get it for FREE at the bottom of this post. Please read more about it here too for context.
3. Finally, storytelling!
In a way that asks people to lean in and feel seen in my words. I created my own GPT to help with this too – it’s incredible at building stories using my 5 part story arc.
πΉ I stopped chasing likes, and instead focused on different metrics for different pieces. with a heavy emphasis on connecting through storytelling.
I also returned to the Pollination Process that I used at the very beginning of my freelancing business when I used to use blogging as my main lead-generating tool
Back when I first started my business – I would blog everything, and this is how I found most of my clients.
Back to basics, baby!
β‘οΈ Grab my Pollinator Tool and the training free here. You’ll be redirected. I made it easy. π
Then copy and paste my Content Pollinator Tool into your notion dash and then watch the tutorial which will show you how I add a shortcut to my iphone to make the content pollination/ideation process feel even less like work.
How to make content creation feel less like work:
πΈ I don’t recommend completing a whole piece of content in one sitting.
πΈ I actually recommend choosing 1-2 ideas ONLY, then writing by hand away from a screen. Take yourself to the sofa, the coffee shop, the beach. Good lord anywhere but the desk. Do it in the most FREE-RANGE Fieldwork-y way you can.
πΈ This is THE BEST WAY to get over your content creation ick. MAKE IT ART. MAKE IT ROMANTIC.
πΈ Before you know it, you have the the initial draft of at least 2 pieces (but you’ll notice you create so much more now that you have started and because you created the conditions for your success. π)
πΈ then choose a new creation day/hour to design later in the week. I am not going to tell you to create ugly content.
πΈ repeat this easy process following week.
I hope this helps! Pop me a DM if you’re now motivated to C R E A T E again?!
