I’m so over hearing that I’m a perfectionist… purely because I spend time on making my carousels and reels look good 🌝
The issue with digital marketing today is that there always has to be a constructed problem — usually an issue created to make you think you need to change.
For example:
You spend a couple of hours on a piece of content… only to then see a social media person online advise: “content should take you only 15 minutes … you’re spending too long designing them.”
They probably don’t mean to shame you – if anything they’re really trying to make to seem easier. But your nervous system doesn’t see it like that.
As a creative who likes things to look good; your immediate response is: “oh shit, I need to create this quicker to keep up with that guru who knows best.”
The difference is, that guru probably did not spend their literal entire lives learning how to craft and mould every creative bone in their body.
And now you’re faced with the idea that every piece of content / or project should be made really quickly otherwise it’s ‘not good enough’ or profitable.
This will do 1 of 2 things:
- It’ll dysregulate you because you’re now going to be moving quicker to keep up and race ahead
or: - It’ll put you into freeze, because the thought of racing ahead to make something ugly feels deeply at odds with your being.
This is why we need to have discernment over the advice and content on the internet.
AND, why does everything need to be measured against it’s speed?
What if we measured everything by how long we luxuriated and simmered on it? What if THAT was the benchmark?
I don’t know when fast as fuck became the definition of success but it did.
